Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani was born on 19 April 1957 in the British Crown colony of Aden. He is the son of Dhirubhai Ambani(Business Tycoon and founder of Reliance Industries) and
Kokilaben Ambani. He has a younger brother Anil Ambani(Another business tycoon) and two sisters, One is Nina Bhadrashyam Kothari and another one is Dipti Dattaraj Salgaocar.

Ambani lived in Yemen for a very short time as his father Dhirubhai Ambani decided to go back to India in 1958 to begin a trading business that concentrated on spices and textiles. The latter was originally named as “Vimal” but later swapped to “Only Vimal.” His family resided in a modest two-bedroom apartment in (Bombay) Mumbai until the 1970s. The family’s financial status moderately improved when they moved to India, but still, Ambani resided in a communal society, used public transportation, and never received an allowance.

He had faced many highs and lows in his career and personal life. Relations tend to get worsen with his younger sibling Anil Ambani (another business tycoon and chairperson of Reliance ADA Groups) after the sad demise of their father due to a stroke. Mukesh Ambani also faced a major setback when the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government slammed Ambani with a fine of $579 million on Reliance Petroleum Industry. That was not enough, The AAP leader, Arvind Kejriwal accused him for interfering in the government work by doubling the price of natural gas.

In February 2016, Ambani led “JIO” launched its own 4G smartphone brand named “Lyf” (pronounced life). By June 2016, it was India’s 3rd largest selling mobile phone brand. The release of smartphones was very beneficial for people. The release of the service Reliance JIO Infocomm Limited, commonly known as JIO. In September 2016 JIO accomplished great heights, and Reliance’s shares rose to a great height. During the 40th annual general meeting of (Reliance Industries Ltd.) RIL, he announced bonus shares in the ratio of 1:1 which is the country’s largest bonus ever issued, and he also announced the JIO phone at an effectual price of ₹0. One estimation states that “Ambani’s personal wealth was enough to fund the operations of the Indian federal government for 20 days.”

  • Mukesh Ambani was ranked by Forbes as the 13th wealthiest person in the world. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, he surpassed Chinese Jack Ma, the executive chairman of Alibaba Group, to become Asia’s richest person with a net worth of $44.3 billion in July 2018.
  • As of 2015, Ambani was ranked fifth among India’s philanthropists, according to China’s Hurun rich list from Hurun Research Institute.
  •  He was declared as the Director on board of  Bank of America and became the first non-American to be on its board.
  • Through Reliance, he also owns the Indian Premier League(IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians and is the founder of Indian Super League(ISL), a football league in India.
  • He has made the cut in TIME magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people of 2019 in the world.
